Yolanda Johnson started writing at age five, and was surrounded by music, as her father was Columbia Recording artist Samuel Jonathan Johnson and her cousins were the Wilson brothers of the Gap Band. She debuted via the limited release EP Sweet Yesterday in 2002. She returned in mid-2006 with the album Violet Flower which was her first significant release. The album and single took off on the indie soul circuit, with the television network BET-J naming Yolanda the network's "Breakout Artist of the Year.

In 2008, Johnson began working on her follow-up album, which she titled 'Breathing' which themes of from the nature of love. We love the sounds that are going on here and we highly recommend picking up a copy of the album.
