Mississippi R’n’B singer Brandy Norwood is being sued in a Los Angeles County Court, after the singer’s driving caused the death of the mother of one.
The California Highway Patrol has reported that around 10.30 am on December 30 2006. Brandy, 28, was driving her Land Rover on the Interstate 405, when she struck the back of a Honda which was being driven by the deceased Awatef Aboudihaj, causing a four car pile up.
It is reported that Ms Aboudihaj’s Honda collided with another vehicle flipping her car over and stopping in the middle of the freeway and was then rammed by yet another car.
Eyewitnesses say Miss Norwood was “disoriented and highly upset” after the accident and failed to keep her composure.
Los Angeles police have ruled out the influence of drugs and alcohol as a contributor to the crash and state the singer was not using her mobile phone at the time. Investigations are ongoing into whether a malfunction in her car could have cause the fatality.
But the Los Angeles Police Department has recommended the singer be charged with a “misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter.” However, the family of Ms Aboudihaj thinks otherwise and has sued Miss Norwood for wrongful death, caused by her “reckless driving” and is hoping for at least $50 million in compensation and punitive damages.
Through her then publicist Courtney Barnes, Brandy expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and asked to be left alone.
In a last ditch attempt she has hired “crisis management” guru Allan Mayer to try and salvage what is left of her reputation but the question begs to be asked will it be enough to save the singer? |
